NS: Introduction of the public transport OV Chipkaart
The national introduction of the public transport chip card was a complex and challenging project. NS asked Manuela to help in the role of project manager to make this happen.
Manuela:
“The introduction of the public transport chip card was a complex project that was under enormous pressure. Internally, but also externally in public opinion. The NS knew that the introduction would not go without a fight. This also proved to be the case in practice, because it took longer than expected. In the end it was successful. I was able to contribute to this by drawing up a few difficult projects with many different stakeholders. Partly as a result of my role, we were able to get all parties on the same wavelength. The aim was to switch to the public transport chip card as quietly as possible. All the pieces of the puzzle then had to fit together perfectly: marketing, communication, IT, customer service, stakeholder management, operations and finance. As project manager, I helped to direct the national roll-out. A beautiful and satisfying result that I still look back on with pride. After the introduction, as program manager I led an improvement program around travelling with the public transport chip card in order to increase customer satisfaction and return on investment”.
